Can I be Hypnotised & More FAQ’s

The following are answers to some of the questions I am asked on a fairly regular basis. If you have any further questions please let me know. You can also check the FAQ’s

Can I be hypnotised?

Everyone who is mentally sound can be hypnotised, but you CANNOT be hypnotized against your will. When you realise that hypnosis is simply a state of deep relaxation, you’ll find it easy to understand how you cannot be hypnotised against your will.

Can you imagine trying to force someone to relax? It doesn’t work, does it?

I’m afraid of hypnosis. Is there any reason to be afraid?

Absolutely not! Some people who have never been hypnotised are afraid of what might happen when they are hypnotised. They fear that somehow, they might lose control or reveal some deep secrets. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Believe it or not, if you want to, you can tell lies while you are in hypnosis. However, if you are attending a hypnotherapist, it will not be in your own best interests to do so.

Can I get stuck in hypnosis?

Some people are also scared that they will get stuck in hypnosis. This is impossible. If you are very tired, you may find that because you become very relaxed, you will drift off into a very restful sleep. You will wake normally when you have slept enough or when the therapist tells you to wake.

However if I notice you are very tired or, if I have reason to believe there is any possibility that you’ll fall asleep, I will suggest to you at the beginning of the session, that you will not fall asleep. Instead I will suggest to your subconscious mind that you will become only as deeply relaxed as necessary for you to get full benefit from your appointment. I use this method regularly and very successfully in my practise.

Also, at the end of every hypnosis recording, I include the following suggestion: if this is your normal sleep time, you will drift off into a very relaxing sleep and wake at your normal waking time, feeling fully refreshed. However, if this is not your normal sleep time, you will be fully awake and refreshed when I count to ten.

Clients are always amazed that they are fully alert immediately if they listen to the recording at any time other than bedtime. They are equally pleasantly surprised when they listen to the recording at bedtime and drift off into a very relaxing sleep at the end of the recording.

Most people don’t remember hearing the end of the recording. This proves that, even when in a deep state of hypnosis, our subconscious mind still responds to all suggestions that are in our best interests.

Will I lose control?

Absolutely not! During hypnosis you remain in full control. You will not do or say anything that you wouldn’t normally do or say. Stage hypnosis gives the impression that the hypnotist is the person in control but remember the people a stage hypnotist works with are volunteers. They willingly do what is suggested to them for fun.

If you are horrified by what people do on stage, you are highly unlikely to volunteer at a stage show.

What does hypnosis feel like?

Most people who have experienced the hypnotic state will tell you it feels very deeply relaxing, like the feeling you get just before you fall asleep, aware of what’s going on but not particularly caring.

Imagine relaxing on a sun lounger by the pool or on a beach on a warm sunny day. You’re not asleep. You can hear children playing nearby, you can hear people talking and laughing but, unless something demands your attention, you remain blissfully relaxed.

As soon as a situation arises which demands your attention, (your young child asks for an ice cream or your partner brings you a lovely cool drink), you are immediately alert. It is the same with hypnosis.

Some people report feeling like they’re floating, while others feel like their limbs are very heavy. Although it varies from one person to another, when asked, all my clients admitted it was a wonderful experience.

Most were amazed to discover that, while they felt as if they had only closed their eyes for a few minutes, in most cases an hour or more had passed.

What is self-hypnosis?

All hypnosis is self-hypnosis, although you can be guided into the hypnotic state by a trained hypnotherapist. Hypnosis is not a form of therapy.

Hypnotherapy is a form of therapy aided and enhanced by hypnosis. When you are in hypnosis your subconscious mind is much more open to the suggestions, provided those suggestions do not go against your moral or religious beliefs.

With time and practise almost anyone can learn to use self-hypnosis at home. Most people prefer to listen to a good hypnotherapy recording as it can be difficult to talk yourself into a deep hypnotic state. And, when in the hypnotic state, it can be quite difficult to remain aware enough to make the suggestions necessary to effect the desired changes.

It is so much easier to listen to a recording. Go HERE to download your FREE Relaxation Audio and see just how relaxed you can become.

Can hypnosis help me reduce stress build confidence?

It most certainly can! Hypnotherapy is an excellent way to help you to access the power of your subconscious mind to deal effectively with any challenges which arise in your life. It can help you to overcome those deep-rooted obstacles and negative programming so you can reduce stress and build confidence.

At the beginning of your first session, I will ask you exactly what you want to achieve. Then we will work out a specific step-by-step programme for you to help you achieve what you want to achieve.

I promise that if I am the right therapist for you, you will notice a BIG difference right after the first session.

How can I benefit from hypnosis when I don’t know enough about it?

You don’t have to understand how anything works to benefit from it. I don’t know how my car works; I just know that then I put the key in the ignition my car will start. If it doesn’t, I call a mechanic. When I flick a light switch in y home the light goes on. If it doesn’t, I change the light bulb. If it still doesn’t work, I get expert help. I don’t need to know how electricity works to enjoy the benefits. It is the same with hypnosis.
