Yes It Works! Hypnotherapy is a very effective therapy that takes place while a client is in hypnosis.

Hypnosis is a trance-like state or as some people refer to it, an altered state of awareness.

Each one of us regularly and naturally goes into a similar trance-like state when we’re doing something we enjoy.

You’re likely familiar with being totally absorbed while reading a great book or doing something creative like gardening, baking or drawing.

If someone tries to get your attention it might take a few attempts of calling your name before your respond. Hypnosis is quite similar.

Some people talk about it as a feeling of being “in flow”. I believe most people have experienced that state of flow at some time.

In Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, the therapist guides you into a similar state in order to access the subconscious mind, thereby reprogramming the out-dated programmes.

This enables you to make the changes you want to make in order to live your best life.

Hypnotherapy gives you the power to be yourself. It enables you to be your best self.

Hypnotherapy can also help with so many of life’s problems, from quitting smoking, to losing weight, and much more. I focus on helping people to reduce stress and create a life filled with confidence.

Earlier this year I worked with a number of clients, all of whom wanted help with confidence in different areas of their lives.

With my hand on my heart I can say this as I have seen it happen so many times.

That doesn’t mean therapy is finished after one session.

Most people will need 6 to 8 sessions to make real and lasting change. However, seeing a big difference after one session is extremely powerful.

I know some people are afraid of hypnosis and hypnotherapy. I can understand that. Stage hypnosis has given hypnosis a bad name.

It always looks like the hypnotist has power over the poor innocent victim who volunteers for the amusement of the whole audience.

I’m not sure about you, but not in a million years would I ever volunteer at any kind of show, stage hypnosis or anything else.

If you watch a stage hypnotist closely, you will see them carefully selecting volunteers who he or she knows will do everything they suggest.

They will always choose someone who is willing to do anything for a laugh and entertain the audience.

That is definitely not me!

However I firmly believe in the power of hypnosis and hypnotherapy to enable anyone who is willing to make  positive changes in their  life.

Hypnotherapy (therapy while the client is in hypnosis) is completely different to stage hypnosis. It’s as far from stage hypnosis as it’s possible to be.

If a hypnotherapist suggested anything to you that goes against what you want or what you believe, your subconscious mind would instantly reject the suggestion.

In contrast to what a lot of people fear,  you will not be stuck in hypnosis. You cannot be stuck in hypnosis anymore than you can be stuck in a deep state of relaxation.

To help you understand how your mind rejects the unwanted suggestions, imagine for a moment what would happen if you brought your spouse or partner for hypnotherapy to quit smoking. You really want them to quit.

They have no desire to quit. But you’ve begged and pleaded, and eventually for the sake of peace, they finally, but reluctantly, agree to go.

How likely do you think it is that the hypnotherapy will be successful? Not likely at all. The hypnotherapy will not work because your spouse or partner doesn’t want to quit. Their subconscious mind will reject the suggestions.

Both of you would be wasting your time and money. A person must be willing to change.

For successful hypnotherapy the client must want those changes.

ARCHTI aim to help maintain a register of suitably qualified practitioners of complimentary therapies and to help promote the self-regulation and improvement of standards of practice and ethics in the field of complimentary therapy in Ireland. 

I am also a member of the GHR (General Hypnotherapy Register). The GHR is a UK based organisation.

Registration is open to any practitioner who is able to satisfy the criteria with regard to training, and who commits to all ongoing requirements as determined from time to time by the GHR overseeing body, the GHSC.
